Even before our check-in date, the Ryokan's concierge kept us updated via Booking.com's messages regarding things to see and do, historical information about the onsen, travel options and also a very timely update on best route to take since it was peak travel time as we went during golden week. Don't expect a very modern, flashy Ryokan experience here. This is more of a traditional historical experience as many of its infrastructure (including some of the onsen) has been preserved for over 300 years. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful receptionists. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. One benefit to being situated slightly out from the main tourist hub is the peaceful and quiet environment you get at the ryokan. The Kaiseki breakfast and dinner (half-board) were excellent and more traditional than modern, ingredients were fresh and local and we were always stuffed by the end of it. The private onsen is worth booking too!

everything! the location is great for a relaxing stay, you can easily access it by bus or taxi. if you’re looking for a place close to restaurants and shops this might not be the best place for you, but if you’re prioritizing relaxation this is a great option for your stay. we stayed only one night and it was perfect, the rooms are very comfortable (some facilities are a bit outdated but functional) and the staff are incredibly polite and helpful. we experienced the two private baths and they were wonderful, super relaxing. the meals were a great plus, everything was fresh and delicious. overall an amazing stay!

This place is 300 years old and they are proud of their heritage and you can really feel the history. Sure, some spots can use a bit of paint or a touch up, but this just add to the charm. The owners and staff all feel very traditional and only speak a few (but enough) words of English. Breakfast (included) and Dinner (needs to be booked) are set and very traditional Japanese. We tried both the private and public baths and both were excellent.

Very charming, in the middle of the woods, with traditional beautiful private and public baths. They made us choose our traditional yukata to wear in the hotel. The baths were incredible! The room is wide and the tatami comfortable. We had a delicious traditional Japanese breakfast. There is a little nice shop with traditional products inside. The staff was very welcoming, nice and helpful. We enjoyed our stay very much

The staff were lovely and very patient with my English/Japanese translator. We loved the room (our first time sleeping on the mats). We enjoyed the onsen. Loved that the location was out of town. We rented a car so it was no problem. Loved seeing my name outside the door when we checked in. Food was fantastic. Breakfast was a little much for us at 8:00 but the quality of the food was outstanding.
